Recent legislation by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts - Chapter 269 of the Acts of 2022 - provides for a cost-of-living increase up to 5% effective retroactive to July 1, 2022. The Taunton Retirement Board trustees voted to approve Ch. 269 thereby increasing the COLA from the previously approved 3% up to 5%. This will be processed as soon as payroll computer programs are modified to process the retroactive increase.

At a recent election of the Taunton Retirement Board held on November 10, 2022, incumbent board member Thomas A. Bernier won re-election to the five-member board with a total of 460 votes. His two challengers were Zachary Sousa (Light Plant engineer) with 184 votes and Richard Calderon (Procurement officer) with 25 votes. Bernier’s term is for three (3) years and will run from January 1, 2023 thru December 31, 2025.

Open Enrollment will be begin for all employees and retirees who are under 65 who are eligible for health insurance on February 28, 2022 and end on March 31, 2022. Retirees who are over 65+ are able to enroll in the Retiree Basic Dental Plan only. Anyone currently enrolled in our MEDEX group cannot change his/her medical coverage during open enrollment.

As of the application deadline on 01/18/2021, there was only one applicant – incumbent Barry J. Amaral.
