Cost-of-Living Adjustment Approved by Retirement Board

The Taunton Retirement Board has approved a 3% COLA effective July 1, 2018 for all eligible retirees and survivors of the system who retired on or before June 30, 2017. At its February 28th board meeting, member Dennis Smith made the motion to approve, seconded by member Barry Amaral and the vote was unanimous to provide retirees with the increase. Incumbent Dennis Smith Re-elected to the Taunton Retirement Board

At an election held on November 2, 2017, Incumbent Police Officer Dennis Smith won re-election to the Taunton Retirement Board for a new 3-year term. Smith easily outdistanced his only challenger, Firefighter Thomas Bernier, by almost 2 to 1. The unofficial vote tally was 482 votes for Smith and 244 votes for Bernier. Cost-of-Living Adjustment Approved for July 1, 2017

The Taunton Retirement Board voted at its regular monthly meeting on March 22, 2017 to grant a 3% COLA to eligible retirees and survivors effective July 1, 2017 up to the first $15,000 (base) of the retirement allowance. The maximum increase a pensioner could receive is $37.50/month. To be eligible for the COLA, the member/survivor must have retired prior to June 30, 2016.
